The Flin Flon & District Environment Council, Inc is the non-profit organization that operates the Flin Flon Recycling Centre.  A couple of fundraising events are held every year to support community recycling.

These fundraisers usually involve lots of good music (thanks to a Board member who knows how to find excellent musicians and organizing a good time) or an outdoor activity such as canoeing or cycling.

The Cabar-Eh! last Friday night with the Hanson Sisters Band and guest CC Trubiak, followed in the tradition of great music and a good time. The ‘home grown’ musicians great talent was enjoyed by all.  A beautiful canoe paddle handcrafted by Rick Hall was raffled.

Saturday was the fifth running of the Voyageur Canoe races. Two teams of six to ten paddlers propelled the large canoes around a course on Ross Lake for bragging rights. This year belonged to the Flin Flon School Division with a time of four minutes, 27 seconds.

The Recycling program is grateful for the great support from the community at these events.

Revenue from fundraising in 2013 was 3% of the total needed to run the Recycling Program. Three percent may seem like a small amount, but it is very important when operating on a tight budget.

The money raised at these events  go to our Energy Efficiency project to replace the doors and the industrial hot water tank.  The project costs are in the $12,000.00 range.

The Kinsmen, Kinettes, Lions, North of 53 Coop, HudBay Minerals, Northern Neighbours and Flin Flon Renewal Corporation have already contributed to this project.

The support of the community at these events and in many other ways keeps the recycling program going.

Thank you.
